My power supply frying, Hurricanes, Final Fantasy XI, Cashiering.. A whole lot of everything. I haven’t had much time to watch any anime, save for Mawaru Penguindrum which is getting very interesting now. On the Final Fantasy XI front I got Red Mage to 36ish, White Mage to 42ish and unlocking many other jobs as I go. I got my Boyfriend playing now and he’s working on getting Warrior to 50. I also dragged a friend back into the game who played way back when it came out.. I play on Shiva and I’ve met a handful of very kind people who make the game very worth it to me. When I played World of Warcraft the people were mean and never helpful, so this is a black and white difference.
In anticipation for Skyrim, I’ve played a lot of Oblivion the past few months.. Still so much I have left undone, but I love coming across other small quests I hadn’t done previously. Though I’m usually an Assassin type character, this time I made a Mage and tried to better understand the magic system, with somewhat success.
I’ve been with my job for almost 4 months now.. Working on 5. Not a bad place, sometimes it can be a little stressful but so is any other job where you deal with the public. The only major complaint I have from it is that sometimes my wrist starts bugging me when I’m off. There’s a lot of repetitive motion in what I do so that could have something to do with it. Just gotta keep an eye on that..
I’ve also been extremely lazy art wise, the most I have done are some sketches here and there I am too lazy to finish coloring. Coloring is a lot harder than I remember it being, I have no idea where to start or how to make it look good… It’s a real problem, I remember a time when I could color at the drop of a hat, I was good at it and I enjoyed the end result. I guess it’s a sign I haven’t done it in a long time. Last time I spent any extended time coloring something and liked it was over 3 years ago. Looks like I have to force myself back into the swing of things.
I have been slacking on my Japanese learning but something tells me that will surprise no one. I have post-it notes up on the wall to help me remember some katakana, such as スレイヤーズ for Slayers, alongside a picture I drew of Lina Inverse’s face… セーラームーン for Sailor Moon with a drawing of Usagi.. and then ドラゴンボルＺ for Dragon Ball Z, naturally. Just some series I am familiar with and they’ve been very helpful for me remembering certain Kana. I’ve gotten Hiragana down to a science now and no longer need a reference for them but I can tell it’s going to be a long road before I learn any major Kanji… I was hoping I could meet some kind people to practice Japanese with but it seems the one person interested in assisting me has disappeared, so that’s still on the table. I am lucky to have the internet for things like that.
At any rate, it’s been a while since I posted and I never meant to wait so long but procrastination is possibly one of my biggest flaws. But here I am! Once again, if anyone plays on the Shiva server on FFXI, send me a /tell if you ever see me on, my name is Alleviour.
Until next time~
Been busy working the past few weeks. I started to watch Usagi Drop and Ikoku Meiro though I am much farther into Usagi. Both of them seem alright so far though I like I like Usagi Drop more for the drama, I’m not a huge slice of life person so Ikoku Meiro may or may not be my cup of tea for the long haul though I don’t mind watching it casually. Ao No Exorcist is coming to the part I read up to in the Manga and I can tell in the last few episodes they have changed a bit, but that’s alright since it is a Shounen running along side it’s manga release, so like with Fullmetal Alchemist and pretty much any other anime / manga pair out there it was to be expected.
Hanasaku Iroha is coming to a close soon, it’s basically what you’d expect with a slice of life, the occasional drama that’s solved by the end of the episode. It’s not a bad show, I think it’s the first of it’s kind I really watched extensively. I’ve fallen behind on Nichijou but that’s no trouble to catch up on.. As for Mawaru Penguindrum, I can’t wait to see more. I loved Utena and Mawaru is finally picking up! I have a good feeling about this one. In the same vein as Utena, I never did get around to watching Rose of Versailles, I’ll have to pick that up later. ^^;
In the gaming world, I’ve been waiting to sort out some bank issues so that I can finally get FFXI up and running for my boyfriend and I. We’ve almost got it this time, I think we have to call his bank and clear it or something, oh well. I can’t wait to play together since while it’s fun alone, it’d be more fun to adventure in pairs. Also, I have been playing way too much Oblivion for my own good. Skyrim, I hope you can keep me this entertained. xD;
I started using MangaBullet again, I had an account once ages ago when it first started but never really did anything with it. I hope that it will eventually become bigger, as it seems a bit dead at times. DeviantArt has become the home to many things I cannot stand nor do I care to be involved in. All websites carry drama with them but sometimes I feel it’s probably better to pack up and move on. If you’re interested you can visit me. :)
On a non-anime / game related note, I’ve also watched way too much House lately. Up to Season 3 so far, though since that’s like the only season they ever seem to show on TV I’ve seen most of these episodes. Sometimes the cases get a little crazy or predictable but I’ve always liked the character aspect. Not sure what show to pick up after House. I do have Roseanne laying around but I am pretty positive I’ve seen every episode of that.
Been teaching myself Hiragana the past week and a half, I already memorized them all though I think I should take it slow and keep practicing them before I rush into Katakana. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do for myself and finally have the drive to try.. I just hope I can find enough good resources to help me along once I start getting closer to Kanji. <_< It’s actually pretty fun, although it can be a bit tricky at times. ^^ It’s really fun to look at some of my belongings and be like “hey, I know what that kana is!” But enough about me being a dork, kek.
I’m really impatient about the release of the re-translated Sailor Moon manga.. One thing that has me really sitting on the end of my seat is the fact I’ve never actually read more than 2 volumes of the series. You can count on me having every volume this time around though, no way am I missing out on that. I love Sailor Moon to pieces. :)
I mentioned last time Mawaru Penguindrum has a heavy Utena influence.. Which I like, a lot. I loved Utena but that aside, there’s another anime I want to look into that I have heard people call Utena it’s “Spiritual Successor” called The Rose of Versailles. I don’t know too much about it other than it’s from like 1979, though the Manga is like ’72, ’73, and that I like shoujo.. And if Utena is considered a spiritual successor then I am definitely interested.
I have yet to watch an episode of Usagi Drop yet, and Mawaru is the only new anime I’ve actually been keeping up with aside the things from last season like Hanasaku and Ao No Exorcist. Still burning out on Nichijou but I won’t stop watching it yet. It still has it’s moments. I’ve read the manga for Ao No Exorcist a little past the point it’s reaching in the anime now but I’m still excited to see it in action. Somehow I find it more exciting to see things animated after reading it.. Otherwise, between playing Final Fantasy XI a little & practicing my Hiragana, I haven’t done too much anime watching as of late. Work keeps me busy too, but at least it feeds my hobbies? :D
Also, soon, SOON, I will have some art on here. T_T When I stop being a lazy ass.
So for now, here is a picture of my character in lame clothing because I am not a pro high level yet. They get all the good gear. /pout
So I know I brushed Ano Hana off in my last post but.. Oh. My. God. I don’t think I’ve cried that hard since I saw the last episode of Sailor Moon Stars. Now Sailor Moon was definitely not sad in the end, but you know, favorite anime and all that.. But Ano Hana really got me. Just something about that last episode was just too overwhelming. A lot of people have hated on it because there was “too much crying” and I’ve seen other people say “too dramatic” but whatever. This was supposed to be sad, it’s about a dead girl! I really don’t regret getting into this series and if you’re in the mood for something moving I guarantee that Ano Hana will deliver.
In other news, Ao no Exorcist / Blue Exorcist has reached it’s halfway point and so far it’s sticking true to the manga. I don’t expect it will stray much, though I’m still worried they may end up making it into another Naruto or Bleach. Long running shounen aren’t terrible… But I don’t think I could watch anything that ends up with 300 episodes of filler. Dragon Ball Z is probably one of the longest shows / shounen I’ve watched, Sailor Moon being close behind, but I love Sailor Moon so that’s beside the point. xD The main character Rin is cute, and I like the art.. and I have a soft spot for female mangaka. Fullmetal Alchemist was an above average shounen and I liked it a lot, female mangaka there. So here’s to hoping.
After not watching Hanasaku Iroha for a few weeks, I finally got caught up on my episodes. It’s a nice show to wind down to, not something I’m super into or worried about what’s going to happen. I think Hanasaku falls into the calming category. I don’t mind watching it every now and then, and I guess I’ll keep up with it till the end. I sense drama is coming up, however.
And then there is Nichijou. Nichijou started out random, funny, and sometimes just plain out wacky. I think it still has that vibe now but I don’t find myself laughing as much. I still like the art style and the jokes are funny from time to time but it doesn’t have that same “What the heck?!” thing I was feeling at first. Also, can’t get used to this second opening song yet.
In the upcoming season, there’s a few shows I’ve been looking forwards to checking out: Ikoku Meiro no Croisée , Nyanpire The Animation , and Usagi Drop . Hopefully I can get my hands on them soon. :)
Out side of the anime world, I’ve been working a lot.. Cashiering isn’t too hard as long as you can handle different types of people. Some crankier than others. But thanks to this working thing, I’ve managed to get back into Final Fantasy XI and apparently back into drawing, writing, and being social. I was in a total rut for months, now I’m just tired. xD On FFXI I got my White Mage class to 18 and then set it as my support job while I raised Red Mage up to 19.. Should be 30 in no time. I’m trying to get my boyfriend to play with me so it’s not so lonely. I met some neat people so far, they’re very nice and generous and have helped me tons. The game may have been out for years but the players are far nicer than anyone I met on World of Warcraft when I played.
If you’re on the Shiva server, send me a tell. My name is Alleviour.
For the last few days I haven’t done much of anything, I started to draw a few times but maybe I’m just not in the right mindset yet. It’s been a long road of ups and downs, and the last few days I’ve felt a little queasy. I’m feeling a little better today, but I really ought to take the advice of a friend and get into some kind of routine, otherwise I fear this will just become the norm. I thought starting this blog as a first step as something to do would certainly help me start things off, so hopefully I can keep motivating myself.
Friday evening I watched all of FLCL, not that it was too hard as it’s only 6 episodes, but for some reason I had never watched it and felt it was time to rectify that. Overall I liked it, it was a bit zany for me at times but it was still a rather enjoyable for what it was. Though I think people give it too much hype, like they do Evangelion, both series are good in my book. I like short OVAs because I can watch them in one sitting and not feel like I have 3+ days to like 2 months ahead of me to finish it up. I was done with this in close to 3 hours, barring any breaks I took mid episode to do things around the house or whatnot. When I was finished it was a bit late, so I called it a night.
Then, Saturday evening I moved onto Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, which is silly and another easy to watch show. Sometimes when you’re not up for something deep, dark, and emotional, shows like this come along and really help mellow you out. I like to balance myself like that, as I just finished watching all of Revolutionary Girl Utena and it was really time for something light. It’s a little fanservicey at times but I think it’s pretty funny, I don’t slap my leg laughing at it like some people I know but it’s definitely not something that makes me facepalm every other minute from stupidity. If you like comedy that isn’t over the top zany, I think this one is pretty good. The girls all have some sort of problem, the super positive girl, the hikikomori girl, the stalker girl, the illegal immigrant… It’s your typical school anime but with a definite streak of dysfunctional.
As for the art front, I had an idea to get myself inspired a bit, but I’m not sure how well it’ll work out. I wanted to start-up playing one of the new Pokemon games, I figured I’d go with White Version because of the version exclusives, ( I love you Lilligant! <3 ) and what I wanted to do was draw a little comic to go along with my journey. A friend suggested to me instead of worrying about the story so much, maybe just draw little scenes and the like, instead of a whole comic which may be easier but I guess I’ll see about it when I get around to wanting to start-up a file. I’ve been on a bit of an anime binge lately so I haven’t picked up my DS much in the last 2 weeks or so.. I pick up so many things at once, but I’ve been trying to rectify that by going back and finishing things I left undone, I wonder how long I’ll hold out..
My next anime blog post most likely will be about something I’ve watched previously, I wanted to do one on Sailor Moon but I really need to refresh my memory so I think I’ll get started on the Manga and let that jog me, otherwise I’ve been big into Slayers since finishing Sailor Moon and I think as I continue that series I can also come up with some good ideas there, so let me know what you think.
